St. Thomas Hotel Booking Tips

What you need to know before you book.

📅
Book Early for Peak Season
December through April is high season. Top resorts sell out months in advance. If you're traveling over Christmas, New Year's, or Presidents' Week — book as early as possible. Prices can be 2-3× off-season rates.
🌧️
Low Season Has Great Value
May through November is hurricane season but most weeks are perfectly fine. You'll find 30–50% lower rates, far fewer crowds, and the same beautiful beaches. September and October carry the most weather risk.
⛴️
Staying for St. John? Stay East
If you plan to day trip or stay on St. John, base yourself in Red Hook or East End. The ferry leaves from Red Hook — if you're staying in Charlotte Amalie you'll add 30 min each way just to reach the ferry.
🚗
Consider Renting a Car
St. Thomas is small but hilly and taxis add up fast. A rental car gives you freedom to explore — Magens Bay, Mountain Top, Sapphire Beach. Remember: drive on the LEFT. Cars are available at STT airport from all major agencies.
🏖️
All Beaches Are Public
In the USVI, all beaches are public by law. You don't have to stay at a resort to enjoy its beach. However, food, drinks, and chairs may be for guests only. Magens Bay (admission fee) is the most famous public beach.
💰
Resort Fees Are Common
Most St. Thomas resorts charge mandatory daily resort fees ($25–$60/night) on top of the room rate. Always check the full nightly rate including fees before booking. Booking.com typically shows total cost upfront.
